2007年,吉利汽车董事长李书福曾表示“吉利要摆脱只生产低端产品的形象,因此4万元以下的车型将不再生产”。之后,李书福将原来的“老三样”--豪情、美日之星、优利欧的生产线全部淘汰,同时新建了“新三样”--远景、金刚、自由舰的生产线。2008年,吉利调整其品牌战略,相继推出了全球鹰、英伦、帝豪三大品牌。全球鹰品牌定位为“时尚、激情、梦想”(远景、自由舰归于全球鹰);英伦品牌定位为“经典、英伦、贵族”(金刚归于英伦);帝豪(金黑红盾标)的定位为“豪华、稳健、力量”;
2014年4月,吉利召开发布会宣布“回归一个吉利”战略并同时发布“吉利gx7”,而该车就是以前的“全球鹰gx7\英伦sx7\帝豪ex7”。至此,吉利彻底放弃多品牌战略,改为一品牌(吉利)多产品线战略。其中,吉利-英伦品牌接替全球鹰主攻低端入门产品,价位在5万元上下(远景、自由舰归于英伦);吉利-帝豪品牌主攻中端车型,价格在5-10万(金刚归于帝豪);吉利品牌则主攻更高端产品;而全球鹰则被直接剔除;2017年,吉利再次进行品牌战略调整。取消英伦品牌,用吉利-远景取代英伦主攻低端入门产品。
